On January 3, 2024, Jayln Garlow’s life was changed forever after he was unjustifiably arrested by the Carencro Police Department on a charge of Second-Degree Murder. Jayln was only 17 years old and a graduating senior at Opelousas Sr. High School at the time. Nonetheless, he was booked into the Juvenile Detention Center and initially held without a bond for a crime that he did not commit. Later that month, he was indicted by a grand jury and charged as an adult by the Lafayette Parish District Attorney’s Office with one count of Second-Degree Murder. The court eventually set a bond which his mother was able to bond him out. However, he spent over two months incarcerated for a crime that he did not commit. This summer, the District Attorney’s Office brought his case back before the grand jury. This time they refused to indict our client and all charges against Jayln were dismissed. However, unfortunately his identical twin brother now stands accused of committing the same homicide that Jayln had been falsely accused of committing
