On September 25, 2024, Christian Kade Bourriague (Boar-Yak) killed a man. Unfortunately, he was put in such a position by his neighbor, David Kyle Fife. Our client chose to stand his ground, and he met force with force. Christian used lethal force to defend himself and his younger brother Dylan.
The incident began at a convenience store near their homes. David confronted Dylan and began to harass him. David followed Dylan home and the argument continued in the street that separated the neighbors’ homes. Our client, who was at home and was the peacemaker, attempted to defuse the situation once David and Dylan arrived. It was not until Fife (who at one point was armed with a pipe) began to charge at him that Christian discharged his firearm resulting in David’s death.
Instead of recognizing that it was likely a case of self-defense, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office (CPSO) chose to arrest our client that night for Second Degree Murder. Christian is a 26-year-old young man with no criminal history. His bond was set at $600,000.00, so we filed a motion to reduce it.
On October 15, 2024, with cooperation from the District Attorney’s Office, Judge G. Michael Canaday, reduced his bond to $200,000.00. Later that day his family was able to post the bond. Unfortunately, our client had to spend 24 days in jail for a crime that he did not commit.
On December 12, 2024, justice prevailed for Christian. The Calcasieu Parish Grand Jury
returned a No True Bill, thus clearing him of all charges. Assistant District Attorney, Lea Hall
assured us that he would present the case to the Grand Jury fairly and objectively and that is exactly
what he did.
We have sympathy for Kyle Fife’s family and loved ones. However, the facts of this case clearly showed that he was the aggressor. CPSO prioritized making a quick arrest over doing a thorough investigation. Christian had the full support of his family and friends. Fortunately for him, he was also supported by the evidence and the law.
